As part of Caritas Internationalis
annual meeting that was held this year
in Amman from May 16 to19, 2014, the CI
directors from all over the world headed
by H.E. Card. Óscar Rodríguez, CI
President, met with (400) Christian
Syrian refugees at Our Lady of Peace
Center on Sunday, May 18,2014.
This meeting was prepared by Caritas
Jordan as a half a day big event that
started with welcoming the delegation by
Fr. Imad Twal, director of the Center,
followed by a brief on the Syrian Crisis
history delivered by Fr. Rifa’t Bader,
director of Catholic Center for Media&
Studies in Jordan.
The Syrian families had the chance to
have a good discussion with H.E. and the
delegation and share with them their
personal stories and agonies and worries
of a vague future for their families and
“ I bring you a message of solidarity
from Pope Francis and the Church with
you and all Syrian refugees” says Card.
Rodríguez addressing the Syrian
refugees. He also expressed his
happiness towards the help and the
humanitarian assistance provided by
Jordan to support the refugees.
“His Holiness Pope Francis chose Jordan
in order to show his solidarity and full
support for Jordan’s people and
hospitality” adds His Eminence. “Pope
Francis aims from his visit to call for
peace in response to the conflicts that
the Middle East is witnessing.”
Mr. Wael Suleiman, Caritas Jordan
General Director, said that this annual
meeting was held in Jordan this year in
reaction to the difficult situation the
neighboring countries are facing. He
also added that Caritas Jordan was
elected to represent the (17) Caritases
of MONA region while stressing that
Caritas Jordan through the support of CI
helped around (350.000) Syrian refugees
The event included also a handicraft
session for Syrian kids and a
psychosocial workshop for the youth.
Caritas Jordan Clinics, GPs, Dentists
were available as well for refugees
check-ups and consultations and
medicines upon the need.
A mass headed by H.E. gathered all
attendees in that event to pray together
for peace in Syria and the Middle East.
Card. Rodríguez distributed food &
non-food vouchers on the Syrian refugees
families. The day was concluded by
dinner prepared by Caritas Jordan
project “productive kitchen”.
