The Vatican New Ambassador Visits Displaced Iraqis



The newly appointed Ambassador to Jordan and Iraq Alberto Ortega Martin paid a solidarity visit to the displaced Iraqis who are assisted by Caritas Jordan.

The Ambassador who was accompanied by Msgr. Roberto Cona, the Papal Consultant at the Embassy, and Mr. Wael Suleiman, General Director of Caritas Jordan, paid a visit to two hosting centers in Madaba; the Greek Melkite Church and the Latin Church in Hanina.

His Excellency met with the Iraqis, expressing his happiness for this meeting and thanking them for being witness of sacrifice, love and true faith. He stressed that, despite the very difficult and miserable circumstances they have passed by, they demonstrate a strong God’s presence, which is the most important thing in life, and at the same time, it is the only grace that nobody can take it from them.
The Ambassador also conveyed support and love messages His Holiness Pope Francis, assuring that the Pope is continuously following-up on their status and they are always in his prayers. His Excellency expressed his gratitude and gratefulness to Caritas Jordan and the love message it interprets through assisting refugees and all needy people, which reflects its name “Caritas” or “Love”. He thanked also the churches that opened its doors to receive displaced Iraqis, including those visited, represented by Father Muen Hilo/ Greek Melkite Church and Frather Wesam Mansour/ Latin Church of Hanina.

The Ambassador shared Iraqis a prayer at the Church for world peace and in the Middle East, in particular, calling on adherence to faith and prayers, as well as spreading the foundations and concepts of peace.
His Excellency gave each family photos of His Holiness the Pope, asking them to always pray for him. He ended his visit with sharing lunch with all.

It is worth mentioning that this visit is considered the first for the Papal Ambassador among his visits and activities since his arrival to Jordan beginning of this month.

Next week, His Excellency will go to Baghdad to begin his holy mission, where he is going to visit parishes and individuals. For that, he asked all to pray for this visit and his mission which he was appointed to do in both Jordan and Iraqi.
